What Is a Computer Network?
Well I don't know about you, but the first time I herd the word Networking I thought it was the same thing
as the Internet. I thought that the Internet was a Network, well I was wrong. A Network is defined as anything
that resembles a net in how it looks or functions. Oh, so its kinda like a fishing net! Well now I knew I had
to find out more about Networking and how it functioned. So, here's alittle information about networking.
A computer network is defined as multiple computers and devices that are all connected together. By connecting
the computers together, the capabilities of each computer are increased so the user can accomplish more.
Types of Networks
Computer networks are generally classified two different ways. The first classification of networks involves the
device that actually controls the network. The second classification involves the distance between the devices.
Two types of networks can be classified by the device that controls the network. The first type is a peer-to-peer
network; the second type is a server-based network. In a peer-to-peer network, no single high-powered computer controls
and manages the network. The server-based network is controlled by at least one special high-powered computer.
